Friendly reminder:

My Deviant Art gallery is not a convenience store for you to pick and choose art and then repost it on Tumblr (credited or uncredited). I disabled DA's Share buttons for a reason.

Every post made after 2012 in my DA gallery comes with a link to the post at my Tumblr gallery. You can't miss it! It's the very first sentence in the artist's comment section.

Please just be respectful and REBLOG from me, the actual human being who put a lot of time and effort into creating these drawings, PLEASE DON'T REPOST.

Thanking you all in advance,

luckyraeve

Hello! My name is Rachel but most of you probably know me as Luckyraeve or Raeve. I like stuff and making art about that stuff is my main reason for existing.

My other hobbies include: crying about superheroes and loafing around the internet.

hmmmm...i won't say never...but for the time being i'm not particularly interested.

it's unfortunate that i wasn't aware of Patreon back when i was still freelancing a year and a half ago.

i have a really good job now and i prefer to use my spare time to be 100% self-indulgent with my art.  i don't want to feel obligated to draw things for others as perks for supporting me.

i really appreciate your interest tho.

oh sure, I myself don't feel obligated to make more stuff, but I just show works in progress, it's nice to get some feedback. I also am  self-indulgent in that I still make whatever I want, I freelanced for years, but it turned out half the time the client just wanted me to make something look like another person's work, where does that get me? It's not fair to undercut another's work, and I can't put the resulting work in my portfolio because that's not what I want to sell!

at least on the internet, you make what you want, people will find you, much better than the old days, printing off postcards, buying lists and doing big mailers to maybe find one or two clients! But now you can tell how old I am!

Really glad you have a good job and are enjoying what you do!

ha ha *is old with you*

yeah, i didn't even have the confidence to go full-time freelance until i was nearly 30. and then i tried and tried and tried for 5 years to make it work. i even got to taste what a good art contract was and it was amazing, but of course lining up more good-paying contracts so i could eat and pay rent on time was mission impossible. in my final year of freelancing i was paying my rent with a bank loan. i eventually had to call it quits cuz my loan was almost depleted.

oh well, i gave it a go, i knew it might not work out and i'm proud of myself for trying and not giving up until i absolutely had to. besides, i can't complain too much. the job i have now might not be the career i wanted, but i like my coworkers, i feel genuinely appreciated by my bosses, i get paid vacation time and benefits and honestly, it's easier than art and the pay is way better. :D
